Check the 'Notes' section at the end of # the song for more info. # # I used the live version off of 'Rock Spectacle' as a reference, but I # don't think it and the original differ at all. # # feedback: mmucklo@east.sun.com ##### G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Broke into the old apartment. G D CaCadd9 This is where we used to live. G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Broken glass, broke and hungry, broken hearts and broken bones. G D CaCadd9 This is where we used to live. Em D C Why did you paint the walls? Em D C Why did you clean the floor? Em D C D Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the G D CaCadd9 door? This is where we used to live. G D Cadd9 D Why did you keep the mousetrap, why did you keep the G D Cadd9 dishrack? These things used to be mine, I guess they still D are, I want 'm back. G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Broke into the old apartment. G D CadCadd9 Forty-two stairs from the street. G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Crooked landing, crooked landlord, narrow landway filled with G D CaCadd9 crooks. This is where we used to live. Em D C Why did they pave the lawn? Em D C Why did they change the locks? Em D C D Why did I have to break it, I only came here to G D CaCadd9 talk. This is where we used to live. G D Cadd9 D How is the neighbor downstairs? How is her temper G D Cadd9 this year? I turned up your tv and stomped on the floor D just for fun. Em D G C I know we don't live here anymore. C D G C We bought an old house on the danforth. Em D G C She loves me and her body keeps me warm; C D (and) I'm happy G D CaCadd9 here. But this is where we used to live. G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Broke into the old apartment. G D CadCadd9 Tore the phone out of the wall. G D Cadd9 Cadd9 Only memories, fading memories blending into dull G D Cadd9 Cadd9 tableaux. I want them back. (This is where we used to live) G D Cadd9 Cadd9 I want them back. (This is where we used to live) G D Cadd9 Cadd9 I want them back. (This is where we used to live) G D Cadd9 I want them back. NOTES Verse: The verse chords are downstrokes on the first two beats of each measure. Refrain: The first 10 measures are picked (through the third D chord), then it starts strumming leading up to the G which is played like the verse. The G D Cadd9 D sequence is then strummed. Also in the refrain: on the CD I have, they almost seem to let the Em chord ring out over the D, so you could probably just play the Em chord for the first measure and let it ring until the C chord of actually playing the D. Bridge: The bridge is picked like the refrain, one chord per measure. Note that it is only 14 measures long, however. Ending: The 'I want them back' section is picked
